Industry Day to Focus on Laser Prototype

ONR will host members of the research and development community May 16 to discuss its Solid State Laser program, which is designed to help Sailors defeat small boat threats and aerial targets without using bullets. The command seeks to develop a weapon prototype for demonstration. A broad agency announcement is expected to solicit proposals and bids soon after the event.

White House Welcomes ONR Researcher

Dr. Julie Christodoulou, director of ONR's Naval Materials Division, has been tapped to co-lead the National Science and Technology Council’s Subcommittee for the Materials Genome Initiative. The subcommittee is supporting the Materials Genome Initiative for Global Competitiveness (MGI), part of President Barack Obama’s plan to accelerate the standard decades-long process to discover, mature and manufacture new materials.
