iMAST Receives Defense Manufacturing Technology Achievement Award

At the recent year-end Defense Manufacturing Conference, a Navy National Shipbuilding Research Program project titled: Naval Submarine & Carrier Propulsion Shaft Machining Cycle Reduction was singled out as a recipient of a 2008 Defense Manufacturing Technology Achievement Award. This iMAST Navy ManTech project was performed in collaboration with the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM). The project focused on improving the overall cycle time for refurbishing the tapers on submarine and carrier propulsion drive shafts, resulting in improved operational availability and substantial repair cost savings.
