Solid Mechanics Program
The field of solid mechanics bridges research in materials science and structural mechanics and design. The Office of Naval Research Solid Mechanics program supports research in mechanics of deformation, damage evolution and failure of composite hull structural materials in the naval environment, when subjected to complex three-dimensional static, cyclic and dynamic loading conditions. The program aims to establish physically based models for material behavior, with predictive capabilities. The current focus is on marine composites and sandwich structures.
