Computational Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence

The Computational Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence program seeks to develop empirically grounded models of human cognition and computational architectures that attain human-level intelligence.

  • Revolutionary advances in the understanding of human cognition
  • Enabling systems to recognize, understand, predict, perform, assist and evaluate human behavior
  • Improving the effectiveness of intelligent systems, human users/operators and hybrid human-machine teams

The Computational Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence program includes multidisciplinary basic and applied research that contributes to the vision of cognitively and socially compatible intelligent systems that enhance or replace humans and excel as teammates, trainers and assistants across the spectrum of operational concepts for human-machine teaming. Whitepapers are invited on relevant problems in cognitive science, artificial intelligence and related fields (e.g., psychology, cognitive neuroscience, computer science, human factors). Basic research efforts should address, for example, open questions regarding the mechanisms and representations of various interrelated cognitive and metacognitive processes as well as fully integrated cognitive architectures for embodied systems. Applied research efforts should address, for example, the maturation, demonstration and validation of cognitive technologies and the use of cognitive models as tools to inform and evaluate the design of system interfaces and to aid and enhance the performance of human users/operators.
