Challenge for Research Funding
The Office of Naval Research and the Navy's Task Force Energy collected and reviewed white papers for the ONR /TFE Challenge at the Naval Energy Forum, 14-15 October, in McLean, Va. At the discretion of ONR and TFE, innovative energy ideas or technologies may be awarded seed funding, up to $100K, for further development. To qualify, meeting participants brought white papers to the Naval Energy Forum to submit on site and in person.
All eligible white papers included the following information:
- Presentation title
- Author’s name, title, organization, phone and fax numbers, e-mail and mailing addresses
- Limited explanation of no more than 500 words. Submitters were asked to clearly indicate the energy topic and/or research area addressed; describe a deliverable (e.g., study, prototype, proof-of-concept, etc.), approach and timeline; and outline how the idea benefits the energy needs of the Department of the Navy (along with any potential non-military applications, if applicable).
Once received on site, we will provide you with a receipt acknowledging your submission. Entries will be reviewed after the Forum, with all submissions evaluated based on individual merit, applicability, relation to naval energy and research needs. A Helpful Planning Tip
Before submitting your white paper, take time over the course of the two-day Naval Energy Forum to meet ONR and TFE leaders and discuss their needs. Come and talk with subject matter experts at the Information Exchange and breakout rooms to learn more about the energy programs being pursued. You’ll catch a glimpse of how your organization might help solve a challenge or meet a need. Also, submit a request to Pitch a Principal™.
