ONR Presents Bowen Award for Composite Materials Test Method
On November 27, the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) honored two engineers who patented a nondestructive method for detecting flaws and anomalies in composite materials. Rear Admiral William E. Landay, Chief of Naval Research, presented the 2006 Vice Admiral Harold G. Bowen Award to Dr. Colin P. Ratcliffe and Dr. Roger M. Crane for their “Nondestructive Method for Detecting Structural Anomalies in Composites,” also known as Structural Irregularity and Damage Evaluation Routine or SIDER (U.S. Patent 6,799,126).
CDR Dylan Schmorrow Receives First Leland S. Kollmorgen Spirit of Innovation Award
Commander Dylan Schmorrow of the U.S. Office of Naval Research became the first recipient of the Leland S. Kollmorgen Spirit of Innovation Award, presented by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) on October 2. The officers of the HFES Augmented Cognition Technical Group selected Schmorrow for this award, which was presented at the 4th Augmented Cognition International Conference in Baltimore.
