MMNCM(SS) Joseph L. DeVore
Command Master Chief
Master Chief DeVore is a native of Milwaukee, WI. He enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1999 and completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL.
He then completed Naval Nuclear training in Charleston, SC.
He reported in February 2000 to USS Bremerton (SSN 698), San Diego, CA as a member of Reactor Laboratories Division. Following his promotion to First Class Petty Officer, he was selected to be the Reactor Laboratories Division Leading Petty Officer. He completed two Western Pacific Deployments while on board. During his tour, he was selected as the 2005 USS Bremerton and Submarine Squadron One Sailor of the Year.
In January 2005, he was hand-selected by Commander, Naval Nuclear Propulsion, for duty on Submarine NR-1, Groton, CT. After reporting, he filled several billets throughout his tour including Chemical and Radiological Controls Assistant, Main Propulsion Assistant and Engineering Department Master Chief. While attached, he completed a Central Atlantic Deployment, a Gulf of Mexico Deployment, several Eastern Atlantic missions, and a change of homeport to Portsmouth, NH where he completed the inactivation of Submarine NR-1.
In August 2009, he reported to USS LA JOLLA (SSN 701) as the Machinery Division Leading Chief Petty Officer. While attached, he completed a major shipyard maintenance availability, several pre overseas deployment availabilities and at-sea periods. He attained the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer and graduated from the Engineering Department Master Chief course in January of 2011.
In February of 2011 he reported to USS LOUISVILLE (SSN 724) where he served as Engineering Department Master Chief and completed two Western Pacific Deployments. While onboard, he attained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer in 2014.
In 2015 he transferred to Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard where he served as the Code 900 Master Chief and was responsible for the production work assignment of all enlisted sailors attached to the shipyard.
In May 2018, he reported to the USS SANTA FE (SSN 763) where he served as Engineering Department Master Chief and completed a Western Pacific Deployment and a change of homeport to Portsmouth New Hampshire Shipyard for a major submarine overhaul.
In August of 2020 he reported to Commander Submarine Forces Pacific Fleet as the Force Chemistry and Radiological Controls Assistant. While attached, he coordinated with all Pacific Fleet Submarine Groups and Squadrons and provided technical and operational guidance to the fleet. He oversaw radiological controls on the island of Guam and worked closely with the Submarine Tenders and Shipyard counterparts to improve radioactive material management and radiological controls, improving efficiency and allowing for greater flexibility in submarine operations.
Master Chief Devore’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Four Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Seven Awards), Good Conduct Medal (Eight Awards), and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
