Chief of Naval Research to Tout STEM Initiatives on Fox News Show

For Immediate Release: Nov 07, 2011

ARLINGTON, Va.—The Department of the Navy’s chief of naval research will appear on a Fox News program Nov. 9.

Rear Adm. Nevin Carr, who heads the Office of Naval Research (ONR), will speak about the Navy’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education initiatives on “Defcon-3,” an online news show that broadcasts weekly from Fox studios in New York.

Facing a growing shortage of U.S. scientists and engineers, the Navy and Marine Corps are investing in programs to boost students’ interest in STEM subjects. More than half of the naval science and technology work force will be eligible for retirement by 2020. ONR is responsible for guiding the services’ STEM education and outreach efforts aimed at replenishing the talent pool.

“Defcon-3,” hosted by Fox News National Security Analyst Kathleen Troia “KT” McFarland, airs live on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. EST. Watch the show at live.foxnews.com.
