ARLINGTON, Va., August 13, 2008 - The Office of Naval Research (ONR) today announced that it has received more than 110 submissions for the Chief of Naval Research (CNR) Challenge at the 2008 Naval S&T Partnership Conference.
The competition will award a total of $1 million for innovative technology ideas. The challenge also allows for ONR to support up to 10 awards, each totaling $100K to provide seed money for science and technologies suitable to ONR´s research opportunities.
Commenting on the importance of S&T for the warfighter during a keynote address, LtGen George Flynn, Marine Corps Commanding General for Corps Combat Development Command said, "You always have to be out there looking for the game changer. The enemy is also out there doing S&T and therefore, has the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies introduced on the battlefield. They rely on the internet for access to new S&T."
Total attendance at the conference of more than 1300 coupled with the number of entries underscore the importance of ONR´s mission to make S&T investments that bring about relevant results.
Audio and video recordings of convention sessions are available online or by contacting ONR´s public affairs office at onrpao@navy.mil.
