ONR Technology on Display at Modern Day Marine

Arlington, Va.—The Office of Naval Research is teaming up with the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory and the Naval Research Laboratory to display some of the latest technologies being developed, tested, and fielded for the U.S. Marine Corps. Program managers will be on hand to discuss their technologies.

Featured ONR-supported technologies include:

  • The Ultra concept vehicle designed to illustrate new concepts in advanced vehicle survivability and mobility. (On display in the outside exhibit area.)
  • A lightweight mortar system designed to reduce the weight of both the Marine Corps company and battalion mortar systems by approximately 30 percent while increasing durability, maintaining performance, and reducing cost.
  • D-DACTS organic LED display provides enhancements to display reliability, power consumption, brightness, contrast, size, weight, and cooling requirements.
  • Shock mitigated vehicle seats reduce shock loads on occupants of tactical wheeled vehicles during mine/IED blast events.
  • Explosive resistant coatings for protecting personnel, platforms, and structures from explosive and/or penetrating ordnance.
  • Ground penetrating radar in a lightweight, vehicle-mountable system to provide early warning and identification with high-quality imaging and automatic target recognition.
  • Marine advanced combat headborne system includes an improved ground combat helmet for protection against fragmentation and direct fire threats.
  • Also on display: extremity armor, Dragon Runner ROV, over-the-horizon/on-the-move communication system, counter shooter technologies, tactical medical coordination system, high explosive shotgun round, and Dragon Fire II fire system.


The Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Targeting Vehicle (RST-V), a joint Marine Corps/ONR/DARPA/General Dynamics Land Systems advanced technology demonstrator program will be on display at the General Dynamics booth; the Gladiator Tactical Unmanned Ground Vehicle, designed to provide dismounted infantry unmanned scouting, reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition will be at the BAE Systems booth; and the Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) Tactical Communication Relay will be at the Northrup Grumman booth.
