Top Students Compete in Finals of the 12th International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition

Arlington, Va. – July 31, 2009 – Thirty teams of high school and college students from around the world have been gathered in San Diego this week for the 12th International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) Competition, sponsored by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) Foundation and the Office of Naval Research.

Top teams will compete in a final event Sunday, August 2, in which their autonomous underwater robots will be tested to the limit of their designs – and only one will come out on top.

This year´s event, held July 28 – August 2 at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC San Diego) Transducer Evaluation Center (TRANSDEC) pool located at Point Loma, includes teams from the United States, Canada, India, Korea and Japan.

In addition to having an opportunity to observe the team competition, examples of Navy operational autonomous underwater vehicle systems will also be on exhibit.

Subject matter experts will also be on hand to discuss and answer questions.
