Capt. Michael "Boomer" King

Executive Officer, Office of Naval Research Global

Capt. Michael “Boomer” King is a native of Eustis, Florida, and received his commission from Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL. In August 2002, he reported to Corpus Christi, TX where he completed his primary flight training, after completion he reported to Pensacola, FL, for advanced flight training where he earned his wings in March 2004.

Capt. King’s early operational assignments include tours with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light FOUR EIGHT (HSL-48) deployed with USS LEYTE GULF and WINSTON S. CHURCHILL in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Follow on assignments include Assistant Air Officer USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7), Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron THREE SEVEN (HSM-37), deployed with USS CHAFEE in support of GEORGE WASHINGTON Carrier Strike. He Commanded Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron FOUR NINE (HSM-49).

Ashore, Capt. King served at Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron FOUR ZERO (HSM-40) as a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor Pilot; Army Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas receiving a Masters of Military Art and Science; Joint Staff, J-3 as a Strategic Surveillance Officer, Emergency Actions Officer, Assistant Deputy Director for Operations, and Presidential Strike Advisor in the National Military Command Center, and Federal Executive Fellow, Georgia Institute of Technology.

Capt. King has flown over 2800 flight hours in the H-60. He has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Three awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals (Three Awards), in addition to other unit and personal awards.

Capt. King served as Executive Assistant, Director Integrated Warfare OPNAV (N91) from June 2023 before reporting as Prospective Executive Officer with the Office of Naval Research Global since May 2025 and Executive Officer since September 2025.
